Frequently asked questions
What does Upwind actually do?
It scans yacht-crew job postings (from Yotspot, or any job ad URL you paste in), writes a tailored cover letter and screening answers from your own bio using AI, and tracks which recruitment agencies posted which job so you can apply through every real channel — not just Yotspot.
Does Upwind work on my phone?
Partly, and it's worth being upfront about the split. Upwind works best with the Chrome extension installed on a computer or laptop— that's what lets it automatically watch Yotspot in the background and find new matching jobs without you lifting a finger. No mobile browser, on iPhone or Android, can run Chrome extensions at all (an Apple/Google platform restriction, not something we can change), so that automatic scanning genuinely can't run from a phone — not even the one-click "Scan Yotspot now" button.
You can still use Upwind from a phone, though: on the Scan a jobtab, paste in a job's URL, and (since Yotspot blocks direct fetching) you'll be prompted to paste the job's text instead — open the job on Yotspot, select all the page's text, copy it, and paste it in. You still get a tailored cover letter and a match score, just one job at a time by hand, rather than the automatic version. Not the autopilot experience, but a genuinely quick way through it that keeps everything in one place.
Is Upwind affiliated with Yotspot or any agency?
No. Upwind is an independent tool. It isn't built, endorsed, or operated by Yotspot or any recruitment agency it references.
Does it submit applications automatically without me seeing them?
No — never on a first pass. "Land it" only submits a real application once you've reviewed that job's cover letter yourself (or explicitly confirmed a bulk "Apply to all" that names any not-yet-reviewed ones). On third-party agency sites it only ever opens the tab and fills what it can — it never clicks submit there.
What does the browser extension see?
It reads pages within your own already-logged-in browser session — the same as looking at them yourself — so it can find and stage matching jobs. It never sees or stores your Yotspot password. Full detail in the Privacy Policy.
How much does it cost?
Free to start, with a limited number of scans and cover letters a month — manual "Scan now" is always free, on every plan. Pro and Unlimited add more monthly scans/letters and faster automatic background scanning, billed monthly through Stripe. One-time "burst" passes are also available if you just want faster scanning for a day. Most people start Free and upgrade once it's clearly saving them time.
How do I cancel?
From the Account tab, click Manage billing— that opens Stripe's own billing page, where Cancel planis a couple of clicks away with a plain confirmation step. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period (you keep access you've already paid for), and there's no call, no email chain, and no attempt to talk you out of it. We'd rather it be genuinely easy to leave than have it hang over you.
What happens to my CV and bio if I cancel?
Your data stays as described in the Privacy Policy — email support@upwindcrew.comany time if you'd like your account and data deleted outright.
Is there any risk to my Yotspot account from using this?
A small one, and it's worth knowing about honestly: the auto-watch feature reads Yotspot pages through your own logged-in session on a schedule, which most job boards' terms technically restrict. It's your choice to use it, and at your own risk — see the Terms of Service for the full picture.
A job I know about didn't show up in my New Matches — why?
The automatic scanner (both the background auto-watch and manual "Scan now") only looks at listings Yotspot marks "Posted Today". For anything older, open the job on Yotspot yourself and click the Add to Upwind button that appears on the page — that pushes it straight into your New Matches tab regardless of when it was posted.
